CNA channel update, March 2012

E-mail Print PDF
CNA is now in it's fourth month of full-time satellite broadcasting and already has touched many thousands, if not millions, of viewers. It is with a sense of gratitude and thanksgiving that we hear the many stories of those who have decided to follow Jesus because of what they have seen and heard on the channel.

These blessings do not come without a cost, however, and the CNA technical team has been working hard in spite of many technical challenges and difficulties. There have been a number of outages that have been caused by problems with our playout software that unfortunately has not kept pace with the direction and vision of CNA. We have already started researching our options to replace this key piece of our broadcasting solution with one that will not present these problems and does not have the limitations which we are currently experiencing. This is a big decision, and is both expensive and time consuming. The earliest we can envisage changing over completely to a new system will be in 3 months time. At that time our entire team will need to retrain on the new software. In the mean time will must continue to use our current software, managing its limitations as best we can.

At the same time, we continue to proceed in gathering content and working to make CNA an enjoyable yet challenging channel to watch, with content that will appeal to North African communities wherever they may be located. As we build relationships with various production partners, build our own production capacity, and continue to build and train our technical team, we will be able to continue following our broadcasting vision which includes increased depth and diversity in our programming. We welcome your comments and feedback as we move forward along this path.

CNA is still in a building phase, and will be so for some time, and we thank you for your patience, prayers and partnership with us in this common vision of reaching North Africa for Jesus.

A year down the track: CNA welcomes the vision of its Takwin Bible Training team

A year ago, CNA took a big step forward by signing a partnership for Bible Training with BILD International. This initiative comes in the specific context of an immense need for training in North Africa, especially Algeria, due to the development of faith in Christ (the least one hundred thousand new Christians) and the multiplication of churches in the last fifteen years.

Since its launch in 2000, CNA has been broadcasting audiovisual content by satellite or (more recently) the Internet, in the direction of North Africa in order to establish strong local churches designed to multiply. On the one hand, the goal is to proclaim the gospel so that people can believe the message of Christ, and secondly to provide solid and progressive Biblical teaching in order to strengthen these new believers in their faith and equip servant-leaders in the churches. The existing leaders are actually very eager to receive training for themselves which they can transmit to their fellow believers.

The North African Channel has therefore sought to use a good product, with a suitable methodology. For CNA the training concept developed by BILD International fits the bill, it is a thoroughly Biblical and carefully tailored method which can work as well in North Africa as in many other countries in the world where it is already being used.
The partnership signed a year ago with BILD International entitles CNA to use all BILD's training system: translate, adapt to the North African populations, edit it under CNA's own name and to transmit it to the churches in North Africa. This training already exists in France under the name of ITEA. The translation into French can be used for North Africa, although this usefulness is limited due to Arabization of the younger generation. An Arabic translation of the material as quickly as possible is therefore a priority.

CNA has given the name Takwin to this training in Arabic, which means creation, foundation or training in Arabic.
The Takwin team already has six members but is still looking for other helpers, the amount of work to do is immense!

One must be certified by BILD in order to pass this training on to church leaders. Translations must be tested and printed and the team must ensure that the training is well established. The vision is great and the work will need to be undertaken for a period of at least 10 years. Takwin serves churches to help them use this training themselves. Thus the churches are equipped to fortify themselves and develop their own ministries.
